Guidelines for Manuscript Submission
The NYMHCA Journal of Clinical Counseling

For original articles the typescript should be arranged as follows: 
  - abstract
  - introduction
  - methods/results (if study)
  - discussion
  - references
  - tables/figure legends/figures (as applicable).

The title page should include:
  - the title of the article
  - name(s) of author(s) and highest academic degree(s)
  - department and institution from which the work originated
-  acknowledgment of support or sponsorship, postal address or
    email.

The abstract of 300 words or less should concisely state the purpose, results, and conclusions of the study described in the manuscript. Abbreviations, footnotes, and references are not used in the abstract. Do not include abstracts in case reports. The article should generally follow APA style, be double spaced and not exceed 5,500 words.  Use the link on the left to review the APA guidelines.

Submission deadlines are:

  - September 1st, for January publications
  - February 2nd, for July publications

Practice.  We are interested in submissions that focus on: innovative approaches to the counseling process, counseling programs and the education of future professionals, ethical and practice issues, and training and supervision practices.  Counseling practice and/or educational theory, empirical knowledge, and evidence-based practice are expected in these submissions.

Professional Profiles.  These submissions highlight persons who have made important contributions to the counseling profession through scholarship, leadership, and/or innovative practice.  This section is also meant to profile organizational aspects of NYMHCA and those NYMHCA leaders who have positively affected the counseling field in New York through their advocacy efforts.

Research. These submissions should focus on counseling outcome research, outcome-based diagnostic practices, outcome-based program evaluation, outcome measure reviews and outcome research design.

New Directions. Students and recent graduates of counseling programs are encouraged to submit manuscripts in the areas of theory, research, or practice. These fresh minds are always full of innovative ideas and concepts involved in mental health counseling and in taking the field forward.
